The Department of Civil Law (DCL) is one of five departments of College of Management in Economic and Social Systems (CMES) at Taganrog Institute of Technology of Southern Federal University (TIT SFedU) – Federal State-Owned Educational Establishment of Higher Vocational Education. SFedU has been established in 2006, after the administrative reorganization. As a result Rostov State University (founded in 1915) and Taganrog State University of Radio Engineering (founded in 1952), alongside with two other educational establishments, merges into a single unity under the name of SFedU.

The DCL has been established in 2003, after the reorganization of the Department of Law Theory and Law Information Science, established at CMES in 1999. Nowadays DCL is one of the newly designed chairs of CMES (established in 1995). Since 1999 DCL provides professional training in law for all bachelor programs at TIT.

In 2000 DCL obtained the Certificate of Recognition (a special form granted by Educational and Teaching Association Council of Russian Universities in Jurisprudence) which legitimates its ability to provide Bachelor program in Law (030900 National Academic Standard).  Since 2001 DCL academic stuff (in cooperation with the Department of Law Theory of SMES) provides a mentioned program at TIT. Special attention in the program is given to the problems of formalization and algorithmic presentation of normative-legal activity.

Since 2008 DCL (in cooperation with the Department of Law Theory and the Department of Modern and Contemporary History of SFedU and  Linkoping University of Sweden) provides a Master Program in the field of European Studies. Two basic courses of the program: European Union Law and Industrial Society and the Formation of Contemporary European Civilization are on the field of responsibility of DCL.

Main research areas of DLT are (within basic projects and partners):

  • Formalization, algorithmic presentation and normative-legal activity simulation;
  • Investigations of conventional methods in law theory;
  • Logical analysis of epistemology of law;
  • Law of the European Union.
